Invincible Ian and Ingrid imperious at West Middlesex

Updated: May 27, 2023

As the summer sun made it's entry into 2023, nearly 30 golfers embarked on the well-trodden path to regular WLGS venue West Middlesex Golf Club for the the fourth event of the year.

The perfect weather only added to the occasion of a classic golf course that was in sparkling condition.

But lurking beyond the pristine playing area was thick rough, and coupled with the snaky, slippery greens, the course proved to be a formidable opponent, with nearly one-third of the field falling below the minimum 25-point threshold. Consequently, these golfers saw their handicaps creep up by a shot, leaving them hungry for redemption in future events.

Amidst the challenges faced by the majority, there emerged a golfing prodigy in the form of Ian Davies.

Displaying skills that could only be described as superhuman, Davies shattered expectations and soared above his handicap with an astonishing 41 points to romp to his second WLGS victory in three outings.

His remarkable performance left the field trailing in his wake, though runner-up Mushtaque Ali's excellent score of 36 points should not be overlooked.

Out of the entire field, only Ian and Mushtaque hit their handicap which proved how tough members found conditions.

Meanwhile, in the ladies' section, Ingrid Deane-Williams commanded the course with finesse and precision. Dominating her competition, she secured a comfortable victory, and retained her West Middlesex title, with an eight-point margin, adding to her triumph by claiming the nearest the pin trophy on the 11th hole.

In the men's nearest the pin, Hal Saleh stole the limelight with an extraordinary shot that came to rest just a putter's length away from the elusive hole.

WLGS stalwart Turin Mia also showcased his skills, claiming the NP in two title on the short yet challenging third hole.

As the fourth event of the year unfolded, so too did the Order of Merit permutations. Faisal Islam maintained his lead at the top of the standings, bolstering his lead to five points. Ian, propelled by his remarkable performance, surged up the rankings, securing the second spot.

Not to be left behind, Tariq Khandker and runner-up Mushtaque also made their presence felt, joining the top 10 contenders.

In the Ladies' Order of Merit, Linda Sulman continued her reign as the frontrunner, firmly holding onto her lead.

However, Kristina Larsson's runner-up spot propelled her into second place, and Ingrid, fueled by her epic victory, entered the race with determination, poised to challenge for the top spot.

West London Golf Society's fourth event at West Middlesex proved to be a thrilling spectacle, where triumphs and challenges intertwined on the beautifully manicured fairways.

As the season progresses, the stakes will only get higher, promising more exhilarating moments and fierce competition at future WLGS events.

The bandwagon keeps on rolling, with our next event taking place at Sherfield Oaks on 21 June.
