Flash Nash pips Faisal in epic Thorney clash

Nash Majumder won a ding-dong battle with playing partner Faisal Islam at the final WLGS men's event of 2022, while Betty Yao was dominant once again in the Ladies.

Yet again, WLGS took over the fairways as a full field of golfers made the trip to a blustery Thorney Park to see out the golfing season.

An early downpour undoubtedly put a premium on ball-striking for the earlier groups, but it was the ever increasing wind speeds that really made a difference to scoring, and it quickly became apparent that a score in the mid-30s would be enough to win.

Tariq Khandker, fresh off a glorious performance in Marrakech, shrugged off a wrist injury to post a respectable 34 points and claim a clubhouse lead that, as time passed, appeared insurmountable.

But little did he know what drama was unfolding in the final group, where Nash and Faisal's epic duel meant both players finished on 36 points with identical scores both on the front and back nines.

This meant that the men's winner was to be determined by the best score on the final six holes, and Nash claimed this by one shot!

In the Ladies section, Betty showed her customary patience and accuracy to record 31 points and pip Kristina Larsson to victory with a putting performance for the ages. Unbelievably, this was Betty's fourth win of the season, a feat that will surely go unmatched for a considerable amount of time. Well done Betty!

It was a nearest the pin double for the Franklins as Catherine and Peter both had their eye in on the 8th and 17th respectively, whilst new member Paul Thornley navigated the tricky 18th to claim nearest in two.

The committee would like to thank all of our members for contributing to a successful season for West London Golf Society. We nearly always sell out our events and new members are joining on a regular basis, which shows that people really enjoy our golfing days out. We know that without our valued members we wouldn't have a society, so thank you all for getting involved and helping us create something so special.

We're working on making next year even more exciting, with a selection of new courses and innovations set to be introduced, and we will offer an update on that closer to our next event at Hampton Court Palace in February.
