Bob Lye made a victorious return to WLGS action after a long injury layoff and Betty won her third event of the year in a high-scoring day at the Bucks course.
A field of 30 members made the trip to Richings Park in what were changeable conditions. The first three groups took advantage of calmer weather, with three players posting totals of over 40pts before a torrential downpour later on in the day went some way to scuppering the scoring for the later groups.
The rain didn't seem to affect Paritosh Ghadioli, who was making his debut WLGS appearance and racked up a majestic 41 points and the runners-up spot. Raj Desaur's steady round saw him match Paritosh's haul, but he had to settle for third on countback. But the day belonged to the returning Bob Lye, who had barely picked up a club over the past six months, who claimed the mens, with a fantastic 42pts.
In the ladies, it appeared that captain Kristina Larsson was going to add to her bulging collection of trophies after a sterling round of 39pts. But Betty Yao, who had already triumphed at Richmond Park and East Sussex this year, had other ideas and made it a hat-trick of wins after her superb return of 40.
History was made in nearest the pin competition, with Catherine Franklin becoming the first ever lady to win a WLGS nearest the pin in two, whilst Raj Desaur's excellent tee shot on the tricky sixth hole saw him claim the prize for nearest the pin.
In what has already been a record breaking year for WLGS in terms of player numbers, all attention now turns to our Club Championships at Sutton Green Golf Club on September 7th. Please RSVP here for what is sure to be a memorable day.
